Heroin Pipeline to Pittsburgh

WPXI is hosting a series on the addiction epidemic that is taking so many lives. The heroin epidemic costs taxpayers nearly $22 billion each year. More than $5 billion of that is spent on heroin-related crimes. Below is the first episode that was hosted live on Facebook. Help for heroin addiction. Lucy Garrighan with Jade Wellness is answering your questions about addiction and recovery. http://on.wpxi.com/2qIEm7W I watched this discussion on Facebook and was happy with the information that was presented. My deepest sympathies to Lucy who lost her son to this epidemic. We are loosing 144 lives every day...

Depression …

The primary symptoms of depression are a sad mood and/or loss of interest in life. Activities that were once pleasurable lose their appeal. Patients may also be haunted by a sense of guilt or worthlessness, lack of hope, and recurring thoughts of death or suicide. Read more. Depression is very real and difficult. I have chronic depression and have been going through a hard episode lately.  I have seen my doctor about my changes. Depression can be treated, but you have to talk. Keeping your thoughts within you can be very harmful. I also journal, I seem to journal a lot more when feeling down, but try very hard to journal all the time. I do what I call thought journaling, where I write simple entries throughout the day of my thoughts. Instead of sharing socially, I just add the short thoughts or pictures to my journal Loosing interst and extreme fatigue, tiredness, exhaustion. Not able to get myself going, these feelings are very real and so hard to break. My doctor has adjustmented my medicine and I am anxious for it to take effect. I am also going to pursue meditation again, I have loved to mediate but find it so difficult to do. I really enjoyed it when I attended a yoga studio that a friend had, but it has since closed. Mother's Day

Today is Mother’s Day. I am grateful for having my mother, mother-in-law and step-mother in my life. Don’t ever take for granted what you have, see what you have right now and show that you appreciate it. I don’t do that all the time but I try.  Today is a very hard day for so many people. The addiction epidemic is taking so many lives and this leaves a huge hole in people’s hearts that can’t be replaced. Grieving is a very long process and never really goes away.  My little little sister doesn’t have her daughter here for Mother’s Day. But, Amber is with her and all of us in our hearts. Holidays are very hard when you are missing someone you love.  Janine, Amber is with you always and in your hearts. She loves you more than you know.  Children miss their mothers, mother’s miss their children.  If you are suffering from addiction please reach out for help. There are a many organizations and people out there who just want to help. Reach out and ask for help, people do care. Ignore the hate and know that there are so many people that truly love you. Today so many people will travel to a cemetary to visit their loved ones. Some taken way to soon as part of this horrible epidemic that we are facing. We have...

OxyContin = Addiction Epidemic

Last week my family watched the HBO Documentary “Warning: This Drug Will Kill You”, which follows some people through through addiction. This documentary really targets in on one of the big precursors of this crisis. Over prescribing of pain killers. I think comparing different treatments for different diseases is not helpful to anyone. I feel the system needs changed. Maker of Epipen taking advantage and charging huge amounts of money. Chemotherapy prices are HUGE.  Narcan is NOT free, and I am sure we will see pricing increases on that also. Pharametical companies made this epidemic and need to be held responsible.  The numbers are clear. Doctors are still over prescribing and NOT providing help after a person becomes addicted. Below are two short videos that I encourage you to watch that also explain the problem.        ...
