We lost Amber on June 4, 2015 and I have spoke out about addiction and overdose. From that moment my life change and the purpose of my life was defined. I am blessed to have a wonderful, loving and supporting family and we have all pulled together. Family is so important and having a strong support system is needed by everyone.
We have to do more!
My family has been speaking out a lot about addiction and we will continue to do so. Right now, we are in the process of creating a non-profit in memory of Amber. The goal of this non-profit is to raise awareness to addiction, overdose and mental illness. We are very passionate about these causes and we have to do more.
I have also been blessed to meet some very wonderful people that share the same passion as my family. I have worked with them in various ways and will continue to help them. So, this week we are pushing forward with the creation of Sunflower Effect, dedicated in Amber’s memory and all of those we have lost their battle. Paperwork is being filed to start a non-profit and goals are being worked out. I hope you will join us on this journey and help us all come together to fight this battle.
Below are the three simple goals that I ask each of you to work towards. I believe these simple goals can have great returns if we all work on them together.
- End the stigma with addiction and overdose
- Educate people on the epidemic and this health crisis
- Celebrate recovery
We can’t do this a lone, we are no perfect. We need help and we need people with passion and willingness to join us.
We're all imperfect in a perfect way.

This is just the beginning, keep coming back as we move through the process and work to bring more to Pittsburgh to fight this health crisis.
